No closing notice, no explanation behind the closing.
As you can sorta see in this shot above the papered storefront... the space is mostly empty...
This outpost arrived in 2012 (bring back Exquisite DVD Video!). And this is the second 7-Eleven to close in the East Village, joining the one on St. Mark's Place in 2013.
Still, there are still plenty of 7-Elevens around (the Bowery, Avenue A, etc.) to get your Fiery Hot Taquitos and Mountain Dew Major Melon Slurpee...

The 7-Eleven on 23rd just west of First closed many months ago. Good location: at a very busy bus stop near VA Hospital, Bellevue, NYU Dental. Not clear what the business plan is but the cleanup was immaculate.
I never knew this existed...and for almost ten years I failed to notice it, lol. Bodegas Forever!
Darn. This was a convenient place to pick up a cold drink walking back from the Union Square greenmarket in the summer.
Oh no now where will I get my all-PLASTIC food diet from?
This was also an Amazon pickup location. When riteaid lockers were full, this was a possible second choice
Along with the .99 cent pizza across the street this was a cheapskate's heaven
This is one of the few places that actually carried a variety of newspapers. Got a weekend newspaper there on Dec. 12th; went back this week and the place was gone. Very weird.
Good riddance. If only the other 7-11 locations would permanetly close as well, it would be a balm. No one NEEDS this generic, light-polluting (and worse) chain in NYC. Prefer local businesses that have a chance of exhibiting idiosyncracy and being caring of and responsive to neighborhood customers.
