Breaking: Blackbird's opening postponed

[Photo from Tuesday by Bobby Williams]

Earlier, we mentioned that Blackbird would be opening tonight in the former Lakeside Lounge space on Avenue B ... From the EV Grieve inbox...

"HEY EVERYONE — URGENT UPDATE: BLACKBIRD WILL NOT BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND AFTER ALL. WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED SOME CONSTRUCTION-RELATED ISSUES AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN UNTIL NEXT WEEK. PLEASE ACCEPT OUR APOLOGIES FOR THE LAST-MINUTE NEWS. BUT IF YOU WANT TO GO OUT TONIGHT, PLEASE GO AND SUPPORT OUR FRIENDS ON AVENUE B: MANITOBA'S, REVISION, AND BOXCAR LOUNGE!"

Editor's note: And Mona's ... and Vazac's ... and B-Side ... and Blarney Cove... and Otto's ...

Hi, I think you should make an EV Grieve neighborhood guide to 1) list the best of the best 2) ensure they keep getting the business they need! Like a "locals best of real new york."

anon - locals don't need guides.

the idea of a guide from locals (as suggested) is great idea. there are still so many cool businesses in the east village, such as the pierogi place & deli on 1st and 8th. they should be mentioned along with ones that suck.

I'm confused by the mention of a locals guide. This is like asking for a map of the apartment that I live in. Doesn't everyone already know where they like to go?

I'm from NY and not against a "guide" There are spots across the street that I've never been to but may be awesome. There's always something new to learn

It's a little crazy that they gave such a last minute update. I went there and it didn't look remotely close to being ready to open. The place was a disaster and total construction zone. Seems like they would have known several days in advance there was no way they were meeting the deadline. The Skint listed the happy hour too, I wonder how many people showed to find it closed.

@ Leesy

Agreed... I walked by Wednesday night... and there was a long way to go... seemed optimistic... In any event, i look forward to going there once they open...

I think the guide would be FROM locals, but FOR anyone who reads this blog.

The point is, the little interviews with people are cool and there could be a similar feature on businesses with a little backstory/anecdotes.

There's a tendency to just focus on the negative, (Im guilty of that too) but in reality there are so many great small businesses worth championing. And yeah, you can live in/frequent a neighborhood for years and still forget places exist.

@ Mary

I like that idea too... I actually did try to do this a few years back... had the misfortune of approaching two businesses who weren't interested in being profiled... (1 blew me off; 1 was worried how she'd come across...)

I need to revisit this idea...

If you're actually going to do an 'EV local guide from locals', might as well profit from it and create an app for it, much like that Not for Tourists Chinatown Chow Down app. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
