[Updated] Reader report: The 2 Bros. Pizza on 1st Avenue has apparently closed
EVG reader Michael Hirsch spotted workers hauling out the ovens from the dismantled $1 pizzeria between East 13th Street and East 14th Street.
There isn't an official word of a closure just yet.
This 2 Bros. branch opened in February 2013, much to the dismay of next-door neighbor Vinny Vincenz, who has been here for 11 years now. In respond to 2 Bros.'s arrival, Vinny's started offering $1 slices.
For now, it looks as if Vinny's has won this battle…
Updated 7-20
One reader said that a worker on the scene said they were merely remodeling the space.

Maybe it's time to put Dollar Pizza in general on the EV Greve Deathwatch list, the quality just gets worse every year, and they cant raise even their prices as ingredient prices soar. This is a business model thats doomed to fail, and several have already closed down.
Vinny's is a great little spot for a slice and a beer. The fact that they put in that 1000 watt dollar slice joint right next door to Vinnys with the great mood lighting and old time feel was bizarre. Way to go Vinny's for surviving yet another NY Pizza War.
Why is this bad? Aren't these horrible places that cater to intoxicated bros and sorostitutes? Now an evgrieve approved business can open
Sorry people lost their jobs but this is for the best right? And of the place stays vacant oh well at least the crusties have a new place to crash.
This is great. Fuck this place and every other one like it.
I enjoy Vinny's slice very much...and this space is likely not to stay vacant for very long.
Who said this is bad ???

Not sure where I said that this was a "bad" thing. Perhaps this line was confusing — "No official word of a closure ... but this certainly isn't a good sign. "
I took out this line "No official word of a closure ... but this certainly isn't a good sign" and replaced it with "There isn't an official word of a closure just yet."
Yay! Now hopefully Vinny's can recover some of the quality they had to sacrifice to compete with the shitbag leeches next door.
To mike n- so more umemployment is good? Great attitude-lets have a parade -
yay Vinnie...hope things get back to before now
One gone, now only twenty more of these dollar shit holes to close...
Good riddance.
2 bros got pwned by Vinny. A victory for civilization.
ALL YOUR DOLLAR SLICE ARE BELONG TO US
I already regret asking, but how exactly are these pizza places a nuisance? I get there's a bunch of them but they're not serving booze or fro yo in a hoof so what's your beef?
What are you talking about?
If I was Vinny I'd be out front for the next week or so doing an obnoxious dance and telling everyone who passed by "HA HA, I WIN". Vinny is probably more mature than I am though.
Noooo... all the 2 Bors pizza location formed a pentagram and my demon baby was going to be born in the center...
What will I do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh well, time for a falafel
I was fairly dismayed when a slice was going Starbucks on me. I would walk down St Marks and freak at a 2.50+ plain slice. Then 2 Bro's pizza opened up and body slammed the pizza industry.
that pizza place drove me to make my first trip to Vinny's, which I had been passing by for a dozen years promising I'd go in someday. keep it up Vinny's, you are the best!!!
$1 Pizza places are important for parents on a tight budget. You know, the people you moved here to be around, the people you point to as an example of "diversity".
2 Bros didn't "bodyslam" shit.
Ben's Pizza in Greenwich Village and SoHo are still going strong as are Two Boots, Ray's, the non-dollar joint on Bleecker etc. ALL those places > 2 Bros.
2 Bros. isn't even as good as chain pizza.
