Gut renovations underway at interesting new business opening on East 14th Street

[440 E. 14th St., at last look]

At last look, workers had stripped away the facade at 440 E. 14th St. near Avenue A, where a Domino's Pizza is being delivered…

Yesterday, an EVG reader noted that the interior demolition is underway…

The space was previously home to the 99-Cent Discount Center.

I'm a gambling woman (not really) and I'm putting my money on this store failing spectacularly. Dominos seems so .. dated? And we already have Muzzarella, Motorino, Vinny Vincenzs, and Artichoke a stone's throw away. No one wants Dominos, even frat idiots. I give this place six months. PS, I miss the card store :(

I never thought the Pappa John's on 1st Avenue would last either. And anybody stupid enough to eat at either one of those dumps deserves a special place on my shit list.

Dominos and other chain pizza places are popular with lower-income people. They'll do an insane amount of business with delivery out of this place since they give like 47 pizzas + breadsticks + a choco-taco + the kitchen sink for about $15.

I thought the same about the Domino's (played out, can't last in NYC) until I found out that a chef friend of mine drunk dialed them all the time. Twenty years ago Domino's would get pretty much laughed out of here, but this is a vastly different NYC. Also given the proximity to Stuytown I expect this one to do very good business.

12:08 you grossly overestimate the tastes of "frat idiots" IMO. I live in Stuytown, I know exactly what I am talking about.

I still miss Pete's-A-Place. Best trad slice around.

I feel bad for New Herbal World next door. They do down to business affordable acupuncture and massages but with the construction noise from next door it's an extremely unsettling experience. I hope they can survive the arrival of their new bullshit garbage slinging neighbors.

This is great for them; most of their deliveries will be right upstairs.

I worked at the first Domino's on Cooper Square when they first opened, and we got quite a few calls from people asking us to deliver to Stuyvesant Oval, so we eventually had to expand our delivery area to there.

Sadly enough, these guys will do a land-office business; there are lots of people in the city who want shitty pizza.
