Street fair! Street fair! Street fair!
The 2016 Street Fair/Festival season kicks off in high style today with the Second Avenue Festival along Second Avenue between East 14th Street and East Fourth Street...
Security is tight this year...
As always, we were on the scene too early, and there were several awkward moments where we thought the vendors setting up for the day might ask us for help...(Sorry, can't lift anything: tight hip flexors!)
As for the food options, so far we can exclusively reveal empanadas ...
... and Germany well be well-represented...(And Christmas in May! You threw away your trees too early!)
ATTENTION BRATWURST PAVILLION....

If you can't make it today, then don't despair: The Third Avenue Festival is next Saturday.

This is the street fair with the coldest weather I can remember.
In other events, check out tonight's concert for peace with the Mascoullisse Quartet of Milan, Italy, 7PM at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 232 W. 11th St. Free plant-based food afterward.
It's good to oppose a couple of Trumpeteering war mongers.

My apartment smells like cheap meat at 9:00 in the morning. And I'm a vegan! God... Somebody... Anybody... SAVE US! because the Community Board won't!
There are some fun pop up games for children and some picnic tables, nice details. Too bad about the weather.
Oh, welcome to another summer of completely re-routed (and massively delayed) bus service. UGH. I would vote for any mayoral candidate who promised to get rid of street "festivals" (or relocate them to a west side pier, so they don't compromise everyone's ability to get around).
I don't know about others, but I usually have a lot of things I have to get done on weekends, and with these disruptions, getting around is like trying to ski through molasses.
Aw. I like the street fairs. They're not fancy but there's a little something for everyone of all ages, they bring the neighborhood together and they're free.
Don't drive a car so the traffic hell these events create don't bother me. Have I ever eaten food, bought tube socks or anything else from a street fair, no. It seems people like them though and besides they are usually done by 5PM.
I saw LIB dancing to Beyonce and having a mini donut rager there. It was tops!
This was actually fun with a lot of local filks out with their kids dancing and having a good time.
