[Updated] There is a rabbit on the loose

Via the EVG inbox...
There's a rabbit loose in the air shaft between 1st & 2nd streets between Avenue A and First Avenue. While I am willing to entertain the idea that this is a new species of rabbit, indigenous only to East Village airshafts, this bunny seems too tame, lost and lonely to have lived in the wild for more than a few days."

So, did anyone lose a rabbit?

Updated 5/27
The rabbit has been rescued! But he or she needs a home. Details here.

Oh my god, I can't take any more lost pet stories, they cause me actual physical pain and anxiety. Please someone grab this little bun and keep him/her in a safe place until the owner is found. This city is no place for a lost bunny rabbit. :(

Oh my!! Why, yes! that IS our rabbit! Oh, we've been absolutely worried sick about our little sweety bunny-schmunny! We just can't thank you enough for finding him!
Could you please return him to us?
Uh... we live in a tree in TSP. uh... so... um, if you could just bring our little sweetie pie and uh... oh, just place him anywhere on the ground near the East side entrance, we'll swoop right in and pick him up.
Again, we are so grateful.
Thank you.

LOL @ 10:03pm C & D being short for Cristo and Dora. Leave that bunny alone you two!

No one has yet taken responsibility for this poor bunny. It's so gentle, and sad.

If someone knows how I can get in there or who to contact to do so, I have a Havahart trap, and can go in tomorrow and catch this poor sweetie. Anyone?

Hey all - I'm also happy to help track down the bunny but need more specific details on location. Was it in Metzer Park? I will try to head there at 7pm tonight around dusk to see if better luck. Feel free to email me at miriam.amelia.young@gmail.com to coordinate!

On the farm, ev'ry Friday
On the farm, It's rabbit pie day
So ev'ry Friday, that ever comes along
I get up early, And sing this little song...

Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run
Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run
Bang, bang, bang, bang! goes the farmer's gun
Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run

Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run
Don't give the farmer his fun, fun, fun
He'll get by without his rabbit pie
So run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run

On the farm, No poor rabbit
Comes to harm, Because I grab it
They jump and frolic, Whenever I go by
They know I help 'em, To dodge the rabbit pie!

UPDATE: That rabbit was hopping around my airshaft. A neighbor rescued it last night, but she is trying to find this critter a permanent home.

I stopped by around noon and two friends also stopped by this afternoon, then I came back to the area around 7pm today but didn't see him. If there are any other sightings, please post!

Poor little thing. I hope this bunny is safely trapped & returned to its owner or brought to a local vet for a check-up.

He's been rescued but need a home for real. If interested ping Chris Coffey on Facebook please! Or ping me bc@bethcarey.com. His owners aren't coming forward.

Probably very hungry, he or she will need timothy hay immediately, available at Whiskers on 9th Street, and some dark greens (e.g., romaine lettuce). I would be happy to contribute, can bring food to where he is.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the rescue of this little one!

Hi Beth - I left you messages on both your website and on your email; I have a friend who is an experienced bunny owner who had said she would adopt Bunny if I managed to catch her. (Thanks, BTW, to whoever actually did; wish I had been able to go by sooner than today to try my hand as well!) I left you my phone number, please call me and I can arrange to pick her up today and hold her until tomorrow, when my friend would be able to come get her from me. I'm just over on 11th and B. Thanks -

Yay what a relief! Thanks to all that helped with the bunny rescue! Glad that it seems like there's a home for him, but just in case I'm around too and can take him in later this afternoon. Consider me back up. :-) Miriam
