When I saw this go up I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody defaced it. The East Village may be 'cleaned-up' and 'safer' but there are some things, like tagging, that will probably never go away.
I don't like this show but grafitti is just wrong. The cops really need to start making some arrests. A night or two in jail will curtail some of this activity.
I miss Chico's NYC mural in this space. I don't know why the management of Table 12 painted over it when they opened. I guess they didn't like the old East Village. Remember it? There was that cool dog on it.

It's the theatre district, its lights have dazzled visitors for decades, the coke sign in the 1980's was a masterpiece of pop art. Commercial area's need signs, neighborhood signs like bodegas and restaurants are tiny in comparison and absolutely necessary.

I am against defacement of property, but these ads are already a defacement of property, so it seems like no harm done in this case.
We should simply ban oversized advertising in the city, as other cities have successfully done.

You realize what such a ban would do to Times Square and other landmarked signage.
I agree it is not nice on a residential street but it is temporary.
