Multiple readers have pointed out that there's a crime scene at Manhattan Express Deli Grocery on the southwest corner of Avenue D and Seventh Street … from an incident early this morning …
Officers are collecting evidence from the store … no official word on what happened here … one witness was telling onlookers that it was a stabbing. We'll update if/when more details become available.
Police also had the dumpster across Avenue D cordoned off…

According to the Post, a man was slashed in the face around 4:30 a.m.
"The suspect, who remains unidentified, slashed him with a sharp object across the right side of his face and fled, cops said."

Wen Hui Ruan was attacked outside 745 E. 6th St., which is a little west of Avenue D.
This stabbing occurred half a block away from and right around the corner from where the elderly Chinese man was beaten severely. I live in the building he was beaten in front of.

I walked by that spot last evening and then around the corner on 7th, and asked someone I saw about it. He didn't know anything about it.
The projects on Ave. D should be privatized by letting the occupants become owners and giving them a long-term property tax moratorium. That would give them a valuable asset, which they could eventually sell or pass on to heirs. It would also give them incentive to maintain them and to kick out the criminal element residing there.
In the late 90s, I worked with an English fellow, who had grown up in the projects in East London (they were called council housing). When Maggie privatized them in the 80s, they were maintained better and crime rates in the surrounding areas fell dramatically.
Of course criminals like Schumer and other g'ubment bureaucrats/crookeaucrats would fight this idea to the death.

I have lived in the area for 20 years.. Avenue D projects are a blight on the area and should be removed..

I live on the 7th and C. I often walk past D to run at the East River Park. I never bring more than my keys and a couple of dollars. I make a point of not making eye contact and walk fast till I get to the water. It is sad, but the projects are often breeding grounds for crime and mayhem. I don't feel comfortable when on the block of 7th and D. And two murders within a couple of weeks of each other, on the same street, within the same block, it leads you to wonder. I partially agree with one of the former commenters in that there are blights in the area. Perhaps the gentrification of Manhattan will slowly make its way to Alphabet City, eradicate the projects by demolishing them all together, rebuild and make the neighborhood safer. For now, I might have to carry a knife or a pepper spray if I want to cross that particular intersection.
The last time I was on D two of the little angels hissed at me "where the fuck you going, Casper". I ignored them, and realized later that Casper was because I am white, like the ghost.
PS I am a 60 year old man, and this was in the middle of the afternoon.
