Raising Keith McNally's Cherche Midi sign on the Bowery

We entertained ourselves for a few minutes Saturday morning watching workers hoist signage for Keith McNally's Pulino's replacement on the Bowery and East Houston …

Dunno too much about Cherche Midi. Eater says they will feature French food from Shane McBride, who's currently executive chef of Balthazar. Zagat reports that they are taking reservations starting on Friday.

As for the sign, much more understated than the red beacon that was Pulino's.

Such a stupid name and signage. 99.9% of the eyes that scan that sign won't even know what it means and so the people will just keep walking.

Oh, but I guess that makes me rather pedestrian since I couldn't possibly appreciate and understand McBride's cache. Gimme a break.

I still can't believe people in 2014 following the celebrity chef scene with such headless enthusiasm throwing around names like "Shane McBride" "Keith McNally" in the way people used to idolize Keith Richards or Bowie or Johnny Thunders or whatever. Those people are the real heroes btw, they made awesome music to sustain us in our daily lives. That is godly. These celebrity chefs are not worthy of the adulation you all throw at them. Whatever. Such is life in 2014. If you are good at your job whether you are a chef, a real estate agent, a dentist... people will label you a "rockstar". These days rockstars can be anybody, except people who create actual music.
