Ethos Meze East Village has been closed for renovations on Avenue A

The Mediterranean-themed restaurant at 167 Avenue A between East 10th Street and East 11th Street has now been closed for nearly two weeks… the sign on the door points to a renovation…

… though a neighbor says that there hasn't been much renovating happening here.

The newly renovated space is on the market … the rent is $16,500 (and $650,000 key money). Per the listing at LoopNet:

GORGEOUS ESTABLISHMENT — the decor and atmosphere. The place gives you a feeling that you are somewhere on an old boat in the sea. Plus, the candles all over the place makes it very romantic.

The restaurant, an offshoot of Ethos Meze on Third Avenue and East 36th Street, opened here last July 2.

I think they need to re-think the small plates approach. It doesn't appeal to people who want to get a real meal and leave a restaurant satisfied. It's an expensive and unsatisfying way to eat.

Time to rethink the space. It gets queasy-making brunching on banana nut pancakes and unlimited cocktails on old boats in the sea.

We love this place, and have gone frequently. Food was excellent, and prices fair. There are full entrees, not just small plates.

We have been great fans of Pylos, and still are regulars there, but it is nice to have an alternative Greek venue in the neighborhood.

The place never seemed very full, so I hope this closing is not a portent of going out of business...
Support this place if you can. We met the owner, and he seems very dedicated and passionate about his restaurant, very friendly and courteous also.

Yeah he also owns Moonstruck on 2nd Avenue and once he got a full liquor license he brought in the high hats.
