San Marzano reopened tonight

The restaurant specializing in handmade pasta is back open tonight after being closed the past week.

Last Friday, the DOB issued a Full Stop Work Order at 117 Second Ave. at East Seventh Street. Per paperwork on file with the city, there was "work without a permit — testing and taking part gas lines" in the basement.

This in a building owned by Maria Hrynenko, who is also the landlord at 121 Second Ave., the site of the deadly gas explosion on March 26. Authorities have said that an illegally tapped gas line at 121 Second Ave. may have caused the deadly blast. The investigation continues.

As a result of the Stop Work Order, San Marzano, the restaurant in the retail space, had to close.

Meanwhile, Maria Hrynenko is siphoning gas from the nearby buildings with crazy straws and funneling it to her property in the West Village.

Welcome back (again) San Marzano, and here's hoping there are no further interruptions for you. Looking forward to dropping by for dinner there soon.

What happened to San Marzano, The Stage, Pomme Frites, Sushi Park, to all the residents who lived here plus the two men who were killed should have never happened. For years the media and big energy has been telling us that gas is a safe, cheap and clean source of energy, but the last time I checked every form of renewable energy was cleaner and does not blow up and destroy whole buildings. This year landlord costs in New York have had a net increase of zero due to falling oil (and gas) prices, yet as Pikachu would say we still have landlords siphoning gas with crazy straws just to save a few more dollars.

Buildings all over the city have been installing larger gas lines for heat and hot water under the illusion that gas is cleaner and safer than oil. Yet we have two major gas explosions in the city recent years that killed almost a dozen people, and even more explosions have obliterated many small homes. The city needs to find renewable energy sources and stop this insane switch over to gas or else we will see many more disasters just like this one.

Carnegie Deli in midtown was just closed by the city due to an illegal gas connection. People need to stop messing with the gas lines bfore more people get killed.

It isn't just gas. There have been a number of fires in the East Village in recent years attributed to issues with electrical wiring. With all of the appliances and air conditioners in use these days, the old wiring in these buildings can't handle the demand.
