Updated: Raclette will reopen on July 29

Photos by Stacie Joy

Updated 6/26: Signage at the restaurant states they will now reopen on July 29.

Raclette has closed at 511 E. 12th St.

Multiple readers told us about the "closed" sign on the door here between Avenue A and Avenue B. Owner Edgar Villongco also confirmed the news to Eater. There isn't any mention of the closure yet on the restaurant's social media properties.

The restaurant, which served French and Swiss Raclette, Croques and Tartine, opened in a 14-seat space on Avenue A in February 2015... before moving to these larger confines in September 2016...
No. 511 was previously home to Northern Spy (2010-2016).

Bring back Old Devil Moon! I really miss that place. No breakfast like it anywhere since.

Went there last night and didn't expect them to be closed as well!

Yes indeed!

It’s crazy how Alphabet City was an oasis of activity during the pandemic. Not even two years later a large portion of businesses closed and the neighborhood relatively empty. How that traffic has been fine outside of Alphabet City. Most expensive ghost neighborhood.

RIP Raclette

Always hate to see a local business close, but as somebody who lives on this block, I'm definitely not bummed to get that sidewalk space back. This place took up all but about a foot of walking lane, and that foot was usually clogged with customers standing around waiting for a table. Made it a real pain just to walk down the street.

Wow. Yes, that was the Ole Devil Moon Space!

I just ate at Raclette last week for the first time and thought the space felt familiar but DEFINITELY hadn't looked like that before. Food was good, I was willing to go again, guess I won't be now.

I second bringing back Old Devil Moon.

try living next to Poco, THE WORST and least community minded neighbor/business, they clearly want to make as much money and SCREW everyone else

This place would be literally completely empty, I'd ask for a table for one, and they'd tell me they could only seat me outside on the worst table. Or not at all. It made no sense!! Wouldn't have tried so many times, but I live right by. Last year I vowed never again. Maybe the rest of the customer base did the same.

Was a great unique place. Wait staff were nice too. Here comes another lame millennial food fad instead.

Old Devil Moon was such a treasure.

They should have stayed in their original small space. got too big for their britches and now they are gone. Oh well.

Place always busy. If it cant make it? Who can? Sad to see a thriving, unique spot close. NOT good for an already trashed neighborhood. Take back that trillion we sent to Ukraine and use it HERE in the E Village, assisting the people who pay for it all.

Sorry for the sidewalk issue. We started our sidewalk seating during the ban on indoor seating, and just continued when dine-in came back. We are trying to regroup and re-open, and will be sure to comply with the eight-foot requirement if and when we are able to come back.

We will try to be better neighbors moving forward. I hope the community feels free to tell us about anything and everything that concerns them.

The headwinds are strong against us re-opening, so all of this might be moot, but rest assured, your concerns and complaints have been heard.

Sincerely,
Edgar

Sadly Raclette still seems to be “temporarily closed,” per Google. Wonder if we can get an update

Hi Edgar! I placed on order on 8/1 for pickup before I went and saw that the store was closed. I’ve been trying to get a refund as my card processed the order. Can you please help? How may I reach you? Thanks!
