zpizza opening on First Avenue, finally

A branch of the zpizza franchise is opening here on First Avenue at East Second Street ... BoweryBoogie noted this impending arrival back on Dec. 23, 2010... but there was never much more activity in this former Cafe Rama space...

This will be the Laguna Beach, Calif.-based company's second NYC location... right there with Terminal 4 at JFK...

New to zpizza (like us!)? Here's some info via a zpizza blog:

Our dough is made from certified organic wheat flour prepared fresh every day, hand-thrown and fire-baked until uniquely crisp. We combine select ingredients such as certified organic tomato sauce, part-skim rBGH-free cheese from grass-fed cows, MSG-free pepperoni, and additive-free sausage. Even our fresh produce sets us apart. Exotic delights like Cremini and Shiitaki mushrooms, roasted eggplant, pili pili and truffle oil, pine nuts, artichoke hearts, roasted bell peppers and caramelized onions assure you'll never experience a boring pizza. The same holds true for our gourmet salads and sandwiches. That said we hope you enjoy our unique and authentic recipes as much as we enjoy making them for you.

Sounds nasty.

Still think it's funny that they've had piles of already-folded pizza boxes inside for months already - before renovations were completed or anything; someone must have gotten ahead of themselves.

Aaargh, who's on with a petition to make the East Village an historic district and ban all chain businesses forever?

If their recipes are "unique," how can they also be "authentic"?

There have been folded pizza boxes in there for months because the last busines a that folded in this spot was a dreadfully disgusting pizza place. They just never cleaned it out fully when they vacated. As for this, if they're gonna open it I just hope it's good... The closest okay pizza is Ray's on Houston and that's just so-so. At least it wasn't a 99c joint ... THAT would've brought great clientele to the neighborhood.

Thank goodness I have been craving airport food and now finally I don't have to get on that damned train to the plane to satisfy my lust.
