Getting ready to walk among the cookies

EVG reader Greg Masters notes that preparations are underway for the 6th annual holiday Cookie Walk at St. Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Church on Avenue A at East 10th Street.

The sign is up now for the event — Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Dec. 14 from noon to 3 p.m.

Here are more details

This is not your average church bake sale!

Tens of thousands homemade cookies are awaiting you at the historic St. Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Church, 10th St & Ave. A, in the East Village.

Take a walk through our Cookie Wonderland and fill a box with your favorites from over fifty varieties of homemade confections. There are two sizes of boxes: $15 & $25 plus an option for a
pre-packaged Gluten Free box for $20!

From their web site:

“If this doesn’t put you in the Christmas spirit, nothing will”

This is directed to EVGrieve commenters!

Well this Cookie Walk seems like an activity ECG commenters would naturally enjoy. It involves the community, it takes place in a beautiful old church, homemade Christmas cookies are an awesome non-gimmick food, the people involved don't appear to be from North Carolina or Wisconsin, and miraculously there is no booze involved. Add that by December 13 we will no longer be able to buy cookies at DiRobertis and you have the perfect EVG event.

This sounds fun.

Am holding out for what would really put me in an EV Christmas spirit. A

biscuit walk

froyo walk

cupckake walk

dumpling walk

Starbucks walk

Dunkin' Donuts walk

brunch walk

bar walk or pub crawl... oh, wait

It is truly an AMAZING experience and event. Not only do they have delicious cookies, but they also have tables of gift items you can purchase at very reasonable prices. You can also warm up by buying a cup of hot chocolate at the hot chocolate bar. I am hooked on this event and look forward to it every year.

On Dec 13th there are three events happening at the exact same time: CookieWalk, SantaCon and the next big Ferguson march and rally in Union Square. For the sake of convenience I propose we combine all three events into one, and call it the SantaCon Cookie Walk MillionsMarch for Michael Brown #BlackLivesMatter

You know that none of these folks live in the neighborhood anymore, right? I mean when was the last time you seen a Russian in the nabe? These are the children and grand children of parishioners who once lived down here but moved. But bless them, they are a tenacious group and haven't been interested in selling their church, which would be a tragedy. So for that reason alone I'll buy five dozen cookies!

Yeah it doesn't matter that they don't live here anymore.

Old ladies and gents formerly of Manhattan now living in Bay Ridge, Rockaway, LI, and NJ = totally fine; our parents and grandparents, basically

Young people living in Williamsburg and "South Williamsburg" selling us bacon popsicles and alcoholic donuts or whatever the fuck = douchebags
