We have not… the small deli at 440 E. Ninth St. just west of Avenue A has been open for several weeks now… one reader said that he got a large portion of rice, chickpeas and spinach, and roasted okra (as well as two of the $1 vegetarian samosas) for $8.

We've tried it, Grieve - it was all right, but can't hold a candle to Punjabi. Still cool to have in the area - I think that space was empty for over a year! Hope they make it there.
We tried it too! Decent food, huge portions and good price. Better than a vacant store front.
Another Bangladeshi establishment in the neighborhood. At least they don't sell their stuff as Indian food, which is always a lie.
@Anon 8:06 - I doubt it's a Bangladeshi establishment, since the sign's in Urdu. They'd have to be from Pakistan or India.
You're the second person I've come across recently who had to put down Bangladeshi restaurants, food. Are you Indian with a deeply embedded prejudice?
I believe they are Pakistani. The samosas we've had are delicious. My neighbor has gotten lunch there several times and loves it.
Who cares what they are or where they're from as long as the food's good? Am I missing something here?

Punjabi Grocery & Deli is at 114 E 1st St. between Avenue A and FIrst Avenue...
Since the English language part of the sign says "Pakistani, Bangedeshi, Indian food" my guess is that they serve Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian food, but that's just an educated guess which is based purely on reading the sign.
We had lunch there the other day and it was great! The chicken samosa was delicious and worth more then $1.50. :)
