The former New York Macaroni Co. space is for rent on St. Mark's Place

The for rent sign is now up at 102 St. Mark's Place, marking the end of New York Macaroni Co.'s 6-month run.

We don't know why they closed. Never seemed all that busy to us. But maybe they were making a lot of mac-and-cheese deliveries. When they opened last June 29, at least two EVG readers gave their food high marks. (The Yelp reviews were mostly positive.)

Anyway, upon closing at the end of 2015, the owners wrote on Facebook: "We appreciated the opportunity to serve you guys a really high-quality product. Thanks for all the support!"

The previous speciality-food tenant here between Avenue A and First Avenue, Puddin', never reopened after the city found them operating with an expired food service establishment permit in November 2014.

As for the storefront, the listing at Winick notes the rent is available upon request.

In today's insane real-estate game I would suggest anyone opening a new business to put "going out business" on the back of the "grand opening" sign.

Puddin had a good product. But it seemed to me when you are selling pudding from a storefront in the EV you will be living on the edge. Pudding has limited appeal. Even if you like pudding, how often are you going to eat it? Pudding is not ice cream. But this is about Mac & Cheese. It's been proven that you can make a good business selling macaroni and cheese. But as with any business, customers breed customers. I never saw any when I walked by this place, and they apparently didn't have enough reserves to try and turn things around.

Too bad. I did try their product once. It was good and tasteful, but it was somewhat dry. The service was nice and professional. Perhaps it is that spot? Best of luck to them...

They aren't selling a heroin type product so its no go. Its got to be booze or sugar or fascion, something that they can sell for 100x its actual value.

Mac and cheese - now THAT is a business model. Everybody LOVES mac-n-cheez! Open a restaurant, why don't we, that just sells mac and cheese.

FYI - the only real good mac and cheese is from Canada.

had you chosen a bigger spot you could have bait and switched like the duplicitous alex stupak.

the comments are telling. how about a separate article on that ev Grive?

was an Alteration Application filed with the SLA or a Change in the Method of Operation?

methinks not........

Meh-- tried it once, S'mac is much better and if think it's hard to compete with another Mac n Cheese only restaurant so close by.
