we're up on our roof right now and saw at least a dozen of these. wondering if someone is releasing some sort of nocturnal weather balloons because of the meteor shower? these are very unusual objects.

Greg Brady's up to no good again.

@ jose

This *has* to do something with the destruction of Alderaan.

Looks like Chinese sky lanterns...popular thing this summer for some reason.

i would say these are almost definitely the chinese flying paper lanterns. no big deal. common at summer festivals and beach parties.

I put the binoculars on them from my roof. They were balloons/ Chineese lanterns with some knd of flame inside. If they were some kind of home spun kit, then the altitude and launch frequency was impressive.

Yes! THANK YOU. Finally, a voice of reason! I was feeling lonely!

The Chinese can release as many paper lanterns as they wish...as long as they don't dry shark fins in Tribeca.

Which is it folks, aliens or not? I'm about to sink my savings into canned ravioli and gas masks, so this is important.

@ pinhead

Well, I didn't see anything on it in the Mainstream Media this morning. Not a surprise, because Big Media is all part of this massive Alien Invasion Coverup.

Don't you find it convenient that this happened on the same night that the Spice Girls reunited?

There is a connection, and I'm working on it.

Anyway, you should probably buy the ravioli anyway — it's HURRICANE SEASON. Plus, it's pretty tasty.

You mean "lamestream" media...

According to the link posted by Anonymous 10:38 PM, those "sky lanterns" are powered by a "fuel, paper, and wax" mixture.

Am I the only one who wonders when one of them is going to drop down and light up a building ("light up" not in a good way, that is)?

Yes. Yes, you are.

Ha this is a joke right? Those are clearly those paper lanterns you see pretty much everywhere over summer. It's sad what's considered news these days

"These are obviously chinese paper lanterns"-WHAT A FREAKING ALIEN WOULD SAY!
Does no one remember the Great Chinese Lantern Cover Up of 18 ought eleven?
Stock up on ravioli and one dollar pizza NOW before they start snatching up our women as breeding stock.
JUST LIKE THE GREAT CHINESE PAPER LANTERN COVERUP OF 1821!!

We set off about 50 Chinese lanterns from our roof on 4th street last night. If you're looking for aliens, check the DMV.
