Seems so … as far as the arrival (and return!) of some affordable/unpretentious restaurant options … For starters, there's the second outpost of Joe's Pizza on East 14th Street… and Archie & Sons on Third Avenue...
Not to mention all the new taco choices — an East Ninth Street storefront for Tacos Morelos … Otto's on Second Avenue … El Diablito Taqueria on East Third Street… There is also Taqueria Diana, which I haven't tried over on Second Avenue. (Ditto for Sembrado on East 13th Street.)
What else? The much-appreciated (by me, anyway) return of the original Nino's Pizza on Avenue A and St. Mark's Place… and the very happy return of Mee Noodle Shop and Grill on First Avenue…
What else? The new outpost of Papaya King on St. Mark's Place… Han Dynasty on Third Avenue?
Obviously there were many other openings … kept this to places that weren't selling, say, Bibb Lettuce Salads drizzled with cherimoya nectar for $39.

It's not the type of food I'd normally order from a cart, but all the ridiculous hate makes me want to patronize his place. Really, people are upset about the noise and crowds? Try living next door to the con ed substation at 6th and A, as I do, if you really want a taste of constant (often 24-7) generator noise, jackhammers, chainsaws, and workers shouting at each other all night long at the top of their lungs.

Oda House on avenue B! Not cheap but very good Georgian food (country not state...ha...)

Taqueria El Diablito on East 3rd is wonderful! I Live on the block and I get take-away from them several times a week. Everything is delicious, fresh, and unlike what any of the joints in the area are serving. Their home made salsas are really unique...
However, They seem to be struggling... They have even cut back their hours. I hope people in the area will give this place a try. This is a family owned business, and they couldn't be nicer. I watched them renovate the space themselves.
Nugget Spot on 14th and 2nd has Captn Crunch nuggets.
I think I heard something about a new biscuit place?

I always liked Banjara on 6th and First Avenue and was disappointed when they were closing. But they moved over to the Second Ave. Haveli space (apparently the same owners). Had dinner there the other night and it was great! Same Banjara menu and employees and wonderful service...so glad.

Sembrado is actually my favorite of all the new taco places.
Alder is a welcome addition, as is East 12th Osteria.
Re Sapporo, they have not been open any time I've gone by the place at night for several weeks, and when I try to call during what were their normal business hours I only get a generic recording saying no one is available to take my call. I fear the worst...
I hear the new Hala cart on Avenue A and 2nd Street serves great food, at great prices, has a nice friendly owner, and they don't serve stale biscuits, so I recomend everyone go there and show your support.
Pretty happy with Halal Guys on East 14th near Second. They're good neighbors too, power-washing the sidewalk regularly and getting to know the people who live here. They're waiting on Con-Ed to finish the hookups so they can open the store, same deal happened when Artichoke first opened; months waiting for the gas line.
