Let's take a look at the New York Sports Club on Avenue A without the sidewalk bridge

Workers removed the sidewalk bridge from outside 28 Avenue A on Saturday.

The address is the new home of a New York Sports Club.

And we can now enjoy the FULL VIEW of the renovated building ...

The Gracefully sign remains (the market closed in November) ... and the storefront remains for rent.

Still no official word on when the gym opens.

Does anyone know what happened to the Burger-Klein sign? Is it moldering in a landfill somewhere?

Another architectural travesty, to say nothing of a significant cultural desecration to a facade that should have been landmarked long ago. I hope they go under before year's end.

Wow, I hadn't seen this. That's is absurd, why'd they do that? You would think if they want to be a part of the neighborhood they wouldn't charge a fortune for "founders rates" and wouldn't devastate the front of the building and make it atrocious.

I called NYSC the other day, they said it is expected to open Jan 15.

the old facade was campy and fun but I would hardly call it architectural wonderment.
Maybe in 50 years this facade will be campy and fun.
Ha !

The building has the charm of a printer cartridge.

Only three things in life are certain: death, taxes and this new facade will never be "campy and fun."

Matthew, the old facade was a spectacular example of mid-century modern design; it was torn away to be replaced by something that looks like a rejected set from the original Battlestar Galactica.

Although I think that this new facade is pretty ugly, the old building wasn't the best looking thing either. If it were me redesigning the building, I would have kept the historic Burger Klein sign, but everything else needed to go...happy to see it's been updated.
