The Native Bean reopened this morning in its new home at 36 Avenue A between East Third Street and East Second Street (the former space that Angelina Cafe used before moving across A).
The Native Bean closed up its coffee-and-bagel shop at 50 Avenue A on Nov. 26 ahead of the move.
No. 50 had been on and off the market since September 2011.
Haven't heard what is going into the storefront other than a construction worker's generic "restaurant" response...

Maybe this will be the year that the City Council will finally defy the real estate industry and help small businesses stay in business in NYC. Great news! It's true - they are the nicest people with the biggest smiles -keeping the EV real- not to mention great bagels and tofu cream cheese.(personal fave) Anyone else still refer to it as Bagel Zone? ha
So last week I ran into one of the great hardworking guys who worked there years ago, from Senegal or such, well now he is an engineer, living in Connectecticut, I believe his name is Herve. While he was spending days pouring coffee and toasting bagels and being a gentleman to all who entered, his evenings were spent in study, and today he is an engineer. The American dream, far from dead my friends.
@Anon. 9:47 - yes, that is what I still call the place, happy to know I am not the only one. I used to love sitting there eating smoked fish and bagels and looking around at all the little tchotchkes and Moroccan light fixtures, what a great establishment. So glad they have survived, just wish they had moved north on Avenue A, closer to me, rather than south!
They need to make it a little more cozy still I think. The lights are too bright/harsh right now.
Nester and the gang at Native Bean are the best of the best! so glad they are back. A little smaller, but has heat and AC!
