Ciao for Now extending their hours now into the evenings

Ciao for Now launches their evening service tonight... moving forward, the cafe at 523 E. 12th St. between Avenue A and Avenue B will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The menu will feature a variety of soups, salads, stews, cheeses and desserts on a rotating basis.

And via the EVG inbox...

Co-owner Amy Miceli says that the decision to add evening hours with home-cooked meals was based on a desire to fill the void left in the community’s changing restaurant landscape.

“We miss Old Devil Moon and Back 40, places to enjoy a quiet drink and a casual, calm meal with friends; not breaking the bank, not crowded out by folks yapping into their cell phones.

Our regulars miss those places too so we are making the food we like to eat, serving it with the wines we like to drink, in an atmosphere we would like to relax in.”

The new hours are as follows:

Monday: Breakfast/Lunch: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuesday - Friday: Breakfast/Lunch 8 a.m. - 5 p.m./Dinner 5 - 10 p.m.
Saturday: Brunch 9 a.m. - 4 p.m./Dinner 5 - 10 p.m.
Sunday Brunch: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

This is great news for the neighborhood and a smart business move for Ciao for Now. You can't survive in this market serving breakfast and lunch only, especially in such a small space. I look forward to lots of dinners at Ciao!

I really like this place, get lunch to go a few time every week. It is true we are losing cozy affordable places to eat in the immediate area for dinner Ciao will fill this gap nicely.

A nice complement to Y Cafe. When will the menu be available?

I like the food in this place, but the twice we have been the service was so slow and so bad that we gave up on it.

Looks like it may be worth another try?

To 9:26 a.m. I recommend you give it another try. I love the food and the wait staff is nice but I agree the service can be slow. I don't mind because I like to spend time there and, again, the food is so good. It isn't a place to eat at if you are in a rush.

Nice what the owners had to say. I have never been to this place, will check it out.

Back Forty didn't break the bank? Hah.

Not breaking the bank??? I l looked at the menu online..$5 for a side of bacon? $3 for 2 slices of toast? $12 for pancakes?

Do yourself a favor and don't try and market yourself like an Olds Devil's Moon type place. It's an insult to it's legacy. With those ridiculous prices (even with today's absurd high rents) you're going after the deep pocket cafe crowd.

For the first time in years I went to "brunch" today. I chose Ciao For Now and they were fantastic.
