Large tree branch down in Tompkins Square Park

Derek Berg shares this photo from Tompkins Square Park this morning... a large limb fell here along Avenue A near the Seventh Street entrance.

Not sure at the moment when this elm branch may have fallen — late night/early morning.

And this is the latest branch to come down in the park this summer.

This is so upsetting! This is one of the older elms. There used to be two more in that area.

Is it just me or is this park falling apart? All the dry patches in the lawn and dying trees............

At this rate, our park won't have many trees left.

It is normal.

The urine patch known as Tompkins is not normal.

You have mature trees, in a terrible place of noise, vibration, EMF, poor light and pollution. Its amazing they live this long. I predict the same in Cooper Square over the next few years. I am waiting for the City to cut everything down for "safety".

Won't happen in CS. That place is meticulously cared for by caring gardeners and arborists.
TSP is just a neglected shithole. Debi is gone, and she was the only thing holding that place (barely) together.
In all likelihood this is probably all planned by the city (let it slowly disintegrate) in oder to force a full renovation and redesign a la Union Sq. sometime in the upcoming future.

Sorry, I got my parks mixed up.
I was talking about Stuyvesant Park. Not Cooper Square Park.

I'm waiting for when De Blasio offers TSP to a developer as a "leaving office gift" and for Rivera to approve the deal because those two don't like parks very much (see East River Park destruction, *sigh*)...

Who would we contact about playing more trees or cleaning up the park in general? I’ve been trying to find an organization to volunteer with to do litter cleanup in the neighborhood
