State of New York auctioning off the remains of B.A.D. Burger on Avenue A

The State of New York seized B.A.D. Burger at 171 Avenue A near East 11th Street for nonpayment of taxes back in early February.

The B.A.D. Burger Facebook page later noted that the diner would be "temporarily closed for a few days."

Unfortunately, the latest legal documents on the door point to a permanent closure...

The notice, dated March 5, says that the contents of the restaurant will be sold off on Thursday at 10 a.m.

B.A.D. Burger opened in late 2011.

So the State KILLS a business over an allegation of money owed and now it auctions off pieces of the corpse....

wish they could settle this by entering into a payment plan or something. businesses and individuals do it all the time. they offer cheap food in a quiet space where you can actually have a conversation.

While there was little that endeared me about this place, it does seem to be the sort of business that's nearly all gone in NYC. There was a lot of unused space towards the back of the joint. With rents the way they are can any business really hold on paying for space they're not using?

i remember sitting in Bad Burger waiting for my grilled cheese sandwich 3 years ago. To entertain myself I looked them up on Yelp. The first review was something like "how is this horrible place still open?!?". My sandwich arrived. Two pieces of bread that had clearly been toasted, not grilled, with a few pieces of warm, limp cheese between them. :P

I always had pretty good food there. And it was cheap and comfortable and didn't attract rowdy drunk bro types.
