Ahimsa Garden opened last Monday at 265 E. 10th St. between Avenue A and First Avenue.
The vegetarian Indian restaurant is an offshoot of the Thompson Street location, which boasts an $11.95 lunch buffet. (Not sure if they are offering that deal here.) They are, however, using the rear garden like the previous tenant,
Moustache, which closed in May.
You can find Ahimsa's Thompson Street menu
here.

Sad to say, I was excited and expecting a little of the buffet flavor of the West Village place. This one is completely upscale vegan, and for a buddhist vegan places, pushes the drinks. Seems to be the case with any restaurant that now moves into the nabe these days.)
I doubt I'll eat here regularly but probably only on special occasions.
The restaurant is vegetarian/Indian, not vegan/Buddist, which would apply to a Chinese restaurant such as Budda Bodai.
I have been to the West Village Branch at night and while they have plenty of drinks to offer, we felt no obligation or pressure to have any. We settled for water.
It is too bad if the new place has no buffet but they hours they are opened don't lend it to a buffet.
I'd like to know what phone number they list; I've received several phone calls from people wanting to make reservations, and it turned out to be this place. Wish I could accommodate them, but I had to explain I'm not a restaurant.
I'll swing by, but I may end up eating at Quintessence instead.
I just went to Ahimsa Garden and backyard is not open - I was told that it is closed. Its small but very cozy and delicious Indian vegetarian food
