Oda House closes East Village location

Oda House, which served the rare-for-Manhattan Georigian cuisine as well as other Mediterranean staples, has closed on Fifth Street and Avenue B.

Saturday saw their last evening in service. By Sunday, neighbors spotted workers discarding tables and chairs and other equipment on the curb...

While there wasn't any official notice of this closure, Oda House did confirm via a Facebook message that the East Village outpost had shut down. The restaurant will continue on with its West 73rd Street location.

Oda House founder Maia Acquaviva, a plastic surgeon by trade, moved to the United States from the country Georgia in 2007 and was said to have rediscovered her culinary calling here. The restaurant opened on Fifth and B in May 2013.

Good lord Avenue B is in trouble. The city and our representatives must do something to try to help more restaurants, bars, and retailers survived.

Awful. One of our family's favorite restaurants. Av B takes another blow.

Every day more and more of these notices.

Oh my God, how many more hits like this can my heart take? Theirs was the best Georgian cuisine, better than the place over in the West Village. This is awful news! (And no, I am not likely to schlep up to 73rd snd West End to get takeout from the other location.) And each day that passes and they remain dark, I grow more fearful about reading a post like this about Little Poland.

Such a shame. This place was so delicious and I came here many times with different groups. I will dream of this food forever

Horrible news. Best Georgian food I’ve had outside of Georgia. Anyone who will be missing Oda House, I’d recommend the unfortunately named Chama Mama at 14th and 7th.

I have a feeling between now and december there will be many many more of these. Sad to say goodbye to Oda House, its going to be a really hard location to fill. how do we come back from this?

We wait for commercial rents to collapse, and then plenty of new places would open up, in a much friendlier economic environment.
