'Freak water problem' KOs Veselka till Monday

Tough break for Veselka this holiday weekend. The restaurant on Second Avenue and Ninth Street will be closed until at least Monday afternoon.

Veselka management shared their status on social media:

Due to a freak water problem, we have to give the experts time to make repairs — and they’re estimating that we’ll be UP AND RUNNING by the AFTERNOON OF MONDAY, APRIL 2nd. (And, no, this isn’t our April Fools prank.)

At Veselka today... at least two disappointed diners...

Veselka reopened lat this afternoon... and as a commenter noted, this turned out to be a closure via the Health Department following an inspection Friday that yielded 48 violation points.

Fake news! They were shutdown by the health department. See the "Grade Pending" in the window dated April 2 and check out the NYCHD website. It's a shame they have to be dishonest and it's a wonder how they avoided the yellow "Shutdown by NYCHD" sticker on door.

You're right, RD. I should have looked after seeing Veselka's closure notice on Instagram.

That message started "Nixon had his plumbers, and now we have ours." Funny that they brought up Nixon.

The health dept. shuts down restaurants for plumbing issues, hence why Veselka had to close. There is nothing "fake" about the information in the article.

As EV Grieve has noted, Veselka was closed down because they had 48 violation points, and as noted on the NYCHD website, the critical violations were 1) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and/or non-food areas. 2) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.

EV Grieve, How is it funny that they brought up Nixon? If you knew the history of Ukrainians in the U.S., you'd know why they love Nixon.
