Blink Fitness getting its Blink Fitness signage on Avenue A

Happening this afternoon at 98 Avenue A between Sixth Street and Seventh Street.

Signs on the windows say the gym is opening at the end of this month. Workers started carting in the machinery on Monday.

Memberships are, for now, $20 a month with $1 annual membership ... the membership office arrived at 115 Avenue A in late August. You can stop by Ray's for fried Oreos afterwards.

The gym is the retail tenant in Ben Shaoul's surrounding condoplex.

And two more shots via Peter Brownscombe...

I'm going to have fried Oreos while getting fit!

Just a little reminder to any thinking of supporting this gym, the building was developed and owned by the son in law to Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

@6:35, incorrect. Shaoul is not related to Trump. The person you are referring to is Jared Kushner who did not develop this building.

This particular development is via Ben Shaoul. Jared Kushner of Westminster/the Kushner Companies is Trump's son-in-law.

Related or not, the gym is still a great deal, idea and so close !
I hope it will be a 24 gym.

I cannot believe this day is almost here. I remember when I moved into this area six years ago, I used to patronize this space when it was the large grocery/deli. They were open 24/7. The ownership was family owned and operated. They were professional and kind. So sad they are no longer there. Now, it is a large, overpriced condominium with a gym. Boy oh boy. :(

Puh-leaze, masochistic gym-going is so last decade. You are impressing no one with your obsessive-compulsive 11pm workouts.

I would consider going to this gym if it will indeed be 24 hours; and not because I'm "obsessive-compulsive" but rather a time such as 11pm works better for me given the hours that I'm at my job. Glenn, in the future try to consider that there might be other preferences than your own before making a comment.

I work from 3-11 pm and usually hit the gym afterwards. The Blinks I know of in the area all close at 11 pm. I don't believe this one will be any different

And it is an ugly boxy building. Looks like it was shipped in from Houston.

I stand corrected on the developer on this building, now someone please tell me if that matters.

FYI, there's a catch in the membership.

You will be charged an additional annual fee of $30+ on the third month after your official join date at Blink. But I guess that's fine considering how affordable the joining and monthly fees are.

I hate gym culture and most people who are into fitness, but I still go to the gym because lifting weights makes me feel good. I did a trial at the Noho Blink and it was decent, not great but their memberships are definitely a bargain. BTW it seems like kind of a gym for novices, not hardcore. I understand anti-gym sentiment but Blink is not really one of those places. Great now I sound like a shill

Well if you didn't take the time out to spew forth your hatred off all things you don't agree with don't worry, you'll have a chance when the next Blink Fitness post comes around. Most likely on opening day. Oh sure there will be pictures, "Hey look, there goes someone who's just trying to get a little bit of workout in and maybe relieve some of the stress in their anonymous lives". Can't wait.

Just remember if you join this gym you are rewarding Ben Shaoul for not only giving us this hideous monstrosity, but for driving rent-stabilized tenants from their homes and then dumping those building on Kushner as well as kicking out Cabrini Nursing home. But I guess there are those amongst us who don't care about who they support, who they do business etc as long as it satisfies their needs. One of the reasons the EV is in the state it is in is because of this ever person for themselves mentality. it takes a community to keep or in our case save what is left of a community.

I agree with the last commenter that many here in the EV are out for themselves. But then again, who isn't, especially in a city such as New York. While greed, power, social status, money, and technology seem to have devoured our lives, what can one do? We are moving forward as a society. Not everything and everyone can remain stagnant or still. Perhaps this addition to the neighborhood isn't or will not be well received; however, I doI think it is a positive change because it evokes progression. And most us could do better if we embraced the new.

"I doI think it is a positive change because it evokes progression. And most us could do better if we embraced the new."

New is not bad because it is not old, new is not better because is not old. I think many people here see businesses and services which they value vanishing and being replaced by businesses which are more expensive versions of what was replace, not a business they would patronize, another corporate enterprise or chain store which took the place of a family business and the "sameness" of outside of the city which is probably the worst part of it.

Calm down people. It's a good gym. Reasonably priced and accessible to all of us here in the hood. Let's welcome them with open arms. Where's the love and positivity?/

Lived near this building for almost a decade, and this gym/condo complex is a *huge* improvement over the dilapidated theater / deli that was there before. This building may be bland, but nothing could be as ugly as that theater was.
