Kavasutra opens 2nd East Village location

Kavasutra opened a new kava bar Saturday evening at 45 E. First St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue...

This marks the South Florida-based chain's second East Village location. The one at 261 E. 10th St. between Avenue A and First Avenue arrived in July 2015. Kavasutra, which also has outposts in Colorado and Arizona, has been accused of sexism and transphobia in the past.

As for kava, you can read this Eater primer about the beverage.

No. 45 previously housed the vegan cafe pop up Skinny Buddha.

I've always wanted to go to the other one, but it's small and there's always a group of people who know each other outside and inside, which has kept me away. I'll check this one out.

This is great. I’ve been to their other location a few times and love the atmosphere there! Can’t wait to check this one out. Ps...have never noticed the transphobia/sexist thing there <3

I love the original location on 10th street. and I can't wait to check this one out! I saw some pictures on their Instagram and it looks much bigger and actually has standing room and benches to sit on besides the bar stools! I am eager to check them out!!!!!!

I usually go to the bar on 10th and get my stuff to go because there aren't any spots at the bar and usually I can hang outside but not this time of year, it's too cold! Happy the new spot has extra seating. I went yesterday and I can't wait to go back again! I like how they brought one of their florida employees up to work it. PS. I've never noticed the transphobic thing there!
