So the nightmare of the USPS continues. Not only are they still not attempting to deliver packages... I was home all Sunday, so bullshit a 5:09 pm attempt, and bullshit a notice was left... but now I'm told to pick it up at the branch that services 10009...
Where the fuck is that?
Is it the East 3rd Street location? The new East 14th Street location? The Madison Avenue Location? Or perhaps according to the USPS website, the still operating Peter Stuyvesant location that IS FUCKING CLOSED!!!

The USPS is a joke. A relative paid for 2 day shipping, the package was not only 2 days late, but I was home, they didn't ring the bell, and left the yellow card, forcing me to make an unnecessary trip to the PO the next day. When my aunt called to get refunded for the expedited shipping, she was told it's not guaranteed 2 days. Basically, in theory it's two days. She wanted to do something nice for me, but thanks to the USPS, it was nothing but aggravation for the both of us.
Also, snail mail from NH and MA shouldn't take 7 days to get to NYC.
So yeah, they can suck a bag of dicks.
2 ebay purchases have gone missing for me in the past month
Ha. I had a PO box at Stuy PO and decided to close it because of their move; it would be just too much of a hassle given my location. I set up mail forwarding from the PO Box address to my residential one. And of course now everything addressed to my old PO box address gets returned to sender!!! Might be because they changed PO Box numbers in the new location (I was told I couldn't keep the same number in the new location), but for heaven's sake, this is infuriating. How do you screw up so royally mail forwarding? Thanks, USPS.
Still having delivery issues (2 day delivery paid for; no slip but online tracking says "pick up at post office; slip appears a week later with original date) but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by a recent trip to the new Peter Stuyvesant branch. I originally went to Cooper Square to pick up the package based on reports I had seen here on EV Grieve, but the new location on 14th and 1st does have package pick up for 10009. Line was still long but moved much more quickly than at old location and multiple PO employees were working that line when other areas were quiet. I was in and out with my package in under 15 minutes. Hoping the improvements last.
You can pick up your package at the new location on 14th Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue. It's a weird setup because you have to go to an unmarked door to the left of the line for the windows. I don't know why they can't put up a sign for package pickup. There is a doorbell to ring to get someone's attention. So far, the line to pick up packages has moved more quickly than it ever did at the old location on 14th Street between 1st and Avenue A. But the people working the windows are still as slow and surly as ever!
My postman never rings my bell whenever I am expecting a package. It's a good thing I live on the first floor close to the entrance of my building so I can pretty much hear whenever the postman is delivering mails. And yes, I always have to chase him down the sidewalk to get my package. Ugh.
By the way, where exactly does one with a 10009 zip code have to pick up undelivered packages these days?
Yeah, 14th Street, across the street from the old Stuyvesant location. I know this only because I thought to ask my regular postperson when I got a "pick up" slip for a very time-sensitive package and I called to schedule a re-delivery and waited on hold for an hour and then called the next day when there was no re-delivery and they had no record of my scheduling it. The idiots on the phone told me to go to the one on 3rd Street, but I ran into my postwoman who kindly directed me to 14th Street.
There are some jerks and some idiots that work for USPS, for sure, but I've always loved the postal workers I've gotten to know. It's a huge source of middle class jobs, and it's endangered -- much of the reason service sucks is that the Republicans have been starving it for funds for decades, but if USPS were to go away (it can't, because all the for-profit delivery services use it for last-mile), so would a lot of NYC's jobs and tax base and the old school blue collar New Yorkers that people around here are supposed to love.
Regarding the foul and surly attitude of the "jobs for life no matter what" postal employees that people have commented on here and often before, is it just me or is that mostly the behind-the-glass types actually in the PO as opposed to the street letter carriers? That has been true in my experience; the guys and gals walking the streets are very OK, but once you get in the actual PO the terrible hateful attitude of the clerks would not be tolerated for 5 minutes by any non-Government employer.
