Report: 2 homeless men stabbed in fight at the 2nd Avenue F stop

Two men were reportedly stabbed last night around 8:40 during a two-on-three fight on the uptown F-train platform at Second Avenue and Houston Street.

The Daily News reports that police are searching for three men — one black, one Hispanic, one white, all in their 40s, who escaped in the train tunnel. The five men involved in the fight were all said to be homeless.

From the News:

One witness, a homeless man who only gave his first name, Eric, described the wild melee.

“They beat him and cut him bad and dragged him up the stairs,” he said of the 27-year-old victim. “He was leaking heavy. The other guy got cut in the head and he ran like a little b----."

Both of the victims (the other is 24) were taken to Bellevue Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to the Post.

Sunlight, fresh air, nature, affordable housing, affordable commercial space, equal access to education and healthcare...
If everyone's basic needs were met we would have a safe and harmonious community.

I used to have a wonderful t-shirt with a flaming skull over the NYC skyline that read "NEW YORK CITY: WHERE THE WEAK ARE KILLED AND EATEN."

to Anonymous @ 12.30 pm. There are bad people in this world and always have been. Giving people what you state is very nice but that does not eliminate bad people.

Some people might be intrinsically bad
Some might have mental health issues
Some driven by bad circumstances
"Bad people" sounds reductive and lazy.

To Anonymous 1:20, I recommend you see this movie from 1992,
"Hero," with Dustin Hoffman, Geena Davis and Andy Garcia.
Nice Capra vibe. That's what we're talking about.

To Al Cabal, NYC birds getting killed by flying into tall glass buildings are not considered weak, their death is a result of the decisions made by "bad city planners."

this station is one of the worse. either you see people smoking crack on the staircase nearest the whole foods market, or people hanging around outside aggressively panhandling. i was at this station yesterday afternoon and you have to keep your eyes open. face away from the subway tracks as you wait for your subway train so people don't sneak up on you like they like to do.

There was a constant huddle of homeless people smoking the worst-smelling cigarettes at the pillar with the seats built into it at the halfway point of the downtown platform. Someone--I assume with the MTA--treated this symptom by building plywood walls (and ceilings) on top of these seats, with the heights of these walls being much taller than the average human being. Without those seats, the homeless people who had been gathering there moved somewhere else. This would have been a good start to actually solving the problem, but then someone at the MTA decided it would be a good idea to place two orange metal boxes in front of this pillar, one on each side of it, and these boxes happen to be about as tall as the seats in the pillar were without the plywood. And now that places to sit have returned to this pillar, who else do you think has returned as well? That's right, the homeless people with their nauseating cigarettes. Thanks, MTA! Don't know what you're trying to do, but clearly this wasn't the way to do it.

They congregate here because they have access to the Whole Foods bathroom.
More public bathrooms throughout the city may help.

We need to address the causes of homelessness - evictions, lack of resources, affordable housing. It's not rocket science.
Other countries that are willing to spend a little more money collectively don't have these problems.
