Gandhi is apparently leaking gas on East Sixth Street

Gandhi, an old-timer (circa 1984) on East Sixth Street, is currently closed... Shawn Chittle noted the sign on the door say that they have "gas leaking."

This happens to coincide with a visit last week by the DOH ... whose inspectors dropped 57 violation points on them, including: "Food Protection Certificate not held by supervisor of food operations," according to the DOH website.

If you eat in there, you'll be leaking gas, too.

Well, somebody had to say that. At least we've gotten it out of our system.

That place used to be so good, but the last time I actually had to walk out without eating I lost my appetite from the conditions there. it is very sad.

I walk my dog past there all the time. There's usually a mild gas smell and has been for years. I think they closed for other reasons.

Now the only Indian place on 6th Street that doesn't give me heartburn and indigestion for 3 days is actually on 2nd Avenue (!) Haveli. Unfortunately, it's a little pricier than the others, but you get what you pay for, I guess. Maybe my stomach has gotten more sensitive with age.

Ghandi, the last time I was there, wasn't bad at all. LIke most of those places, they've had years and years of awful eaters there and the menu is tricky but if you stay with the things they do well--clay over cooked things like breads and tandori, for example--they do quite well. And, the staff is pleasant. Again, one of my faves in the EV for Indian but the bar here is kinda low.
