AlphaBet Cafe is closed for renovations

Several readers told us that AlphaBet Cafe closed Tuesday here on East 14th Street and Avenue B… signs point to a renovation/remodel …

Not sure if this is an actual closed for renovations … or a "closed for renovations," where we never see the place open again … A new operator was on the February CB3/SLA docket for a new liquor license, but they were scratched from the agenda.

AlphaBet Cafe had a few bouts of the DOH last year… however, there's nothing on file with the DOH now pointing to a health-related closure.

I don't know why I think this is so funny but I started laughing right away when I saw the pic of the candles sitting atop balls of twigs display.

Would not be surprised if site being acquired by a Developer as the rebuilding of 14 Street presses eastward to Con ED Towers

I hope they're back soon -- and better than ever. There's a short supply of decent places with friendly waitresses where you can get a reasonably priced lunch, burger or early bird special. Hell, every time I try to order in now I'm out $30 plus tip. At Alphabet you could get a good burger, fries and shake and reciece change back for you twenty with a $5 tip.

For whatever it's worth, I'm in there quite often. One day a couple of weeks ago I saw the owner going over a set of plans for a remodel with a couple of other people. So it's apparently something they've been planning for a while. Hopefully that's all it is!

There are too many bars on ave. b between 13th and 14th - 2 new ones got approved from the SLA, bypassing the CB3 in 2013 along with Monas, Revision LOUNGE and Pouring Ribbons. So there are now 5 bars on that block and a liquor store.
