There's a new listing for a one-bedroom apartment at 269 E. 10th St., a walk-up between Avenue A and First Avenue… the listing via The Modern Group is blah, blah, the usual… until!
Best kept little secret....Amazing art gallery & views on the rooftop, perfect for photoshoots, selfies or drinks with friends.
(Selfies! Heh.)
And the Streeteasy listing includes photos of this art…
Anyone know anything about who created all this?
On an unrelated note, a search of this address turned up this tidbit via New York Songlines:
The first home to have a Christmas tree with electric lights was in the East Village at 269 E.10th Street in 1883. It was owned by Edward Johnson, an associate of the famed inventor Thomas Edison.
Wonder if they waited until August to throw away the tree?

Its amazing what people call art these days....
They needed to say "perfect for selfies" out loud?
10:04 - you can't make this stuff up.
Seems strange that the building owner would encourage tenants to tromp around a non-decked roof punching holes in the tar and whatnot. But hey, what's a few thousand in water damage and roof repairs? Git er rented, I guess.
Maybe take a selfie as you drunkenly plummet off the roof to the hard pavement below, woo.
Is the irony of the "Robber-baron" illustration lost on these people?
Its not the building owner, its some broker who likely snuck up there and is encouraging you to do the same, just so you rent THIS APT NOW!
I hope I don't live across the street.. Gonna be a lot of loud parties!
I live at 273 and our roofs are adjoined - this "art" isn't even up there anymore. Yes, the roof is great, but an "art gallery" it isn't.
ShammWow! Got this link sent by a buddy of mine.. It's kind of histerical how that ppl are taking shots at some simple doodling that was meant to give a rooftop some life among some terrible graff that's up there ..I'm 1/3 ppl that did the paintings-never considered it to be anything wild - just for kicks - as for whomever took the pics to use as bait to get ppl to rent - shame on them - all paintings are still up there minus 1.. In retrospect - sure glad we didnt sign any of them .. If any one does visit the rooftop- just enjoy it ! It was made with the best intentions .. Que Dios Los bendiga.
Let all the "selfies" up there - one, two, three - JUMP!
NOW - take a picture (I suggest a "before" and "after" - you know, with the crime scene tape....)
Total bollocks this whole way of advertising an apartment. May they all stumble and plummet (the idiot renters who would go because of this AND the realtors)
"Mdrn". Presumably this means "Mad rent". Has there been a cultural shortage of vowels?

This is my old apartment! I got engaged on that roof.
The graffiti and artwork up there always just seemed to rotate and I never had any clue who did it in the several years I lived there but always enjoyed it. Sometimes it was total crap and other times it was incredible. Yes it's an unfinished roof but it was actually a really nice, peaceful space to get some fresh air (we did have the occasional get together but it was our apartment directly underneath that would have to deal with any foot noise).
Because the roof adjoins to the other buildings on each side we also had a lot of great shared moments with interesting neighbors we wouldn't have met otherwise.
So maybe it's worth the brag?
