Several readers noted the arrival today of the plywood outside 176 First Ave., the future home of Black Seed bagels… as the renovations continue here between East 10th Street and East 11th Street…

No word just yet on an official opening date.

does that mean they will not maintain the exterior?

People should understand that the decor is in such need of repair that it's not salvageable. I doubt anything will be kept of the old place.

I am underhandedly re introducing the bad side of NYC. Petty crime and incessant bureaucratic obstacles to new lease holders.
Is there not one person from your home town that misses you???This is not the place anymore, ok? Thanks for ruining my home.

Hmmm. Overpriced small bagels from a Montreal interloper. Cant wait to never set foot in there.

Re maintaining the exterior: They MAY be restoring it to its original, early 20-century look.

As a DeR fan, I'm eager to see the interior again.

The new owners said they are attempting to save what they can of the tile work, etc. We shall see!
