Porchetta.Hog temporarily closed on East Fifth Street

Porchetta.Hog quietly opened on East Fifth Street just east of Second Avenue back in May... seemed to take some people by surprise...

On Tuesday, Slum Goddess noted that the place is now "temporarily closed" ...

We called, though no one picked up the phone... and there wasn't any outgoing message... anyway, as you may know, this space is not affiliated with Porchetta on East Seventh Street co-owned by Sara Jenkins.

@ Eden

You mean Calliope? I think the people here were involved with Prune and The Waverly Inn.

This place is MUCH better than the overrated Porchetta on 7th (which is dry as a bone). I guess bad food + good PR people = success. Hope this place reopens.

Something is strange about the place. One guy looks like a neo-nazi skinhead with a full sleeve blacked out tattoo - wonder what got blacked out ... they open a place with a very similar name to a shop not more than a few blocks away ... and try to serve the same food ... but not as good ... They also bake bread in the morning, but it smells like Subway sub shop corporate bread, no soul at all ... this place should learn how to make bread and then start making pizzas.
