Healthfully has closed on 4th Street

Last Monday, we posted how several EVG readers were worried about the longterm health of Healthfully Organic Market, 98 E. Fourth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue. The shop had been keeping irregular hours and unveiled a 40-percent-off inventory sale.

Unfortunately, in this case, there was reason for concern: Workers cleared out the store on Friday...

We heard a variety of [unofficial] reasons for the closure, from the expiration of the lease to a decline in business due to the Dolphin Gym closing next door.

Had a horrible time every single time I tried to shop there. Pushy assholes and rude as hell. Then they had packages there and that was even worse. They just threw them at you when you came in to pick up and acted like asking for your stuff was the worst thing ever. I saw them chase out customer after customer by acting like maniacs towards them. Fare well guys...I shall not miss you.

Fourth Street Food Coop, up the block, between Bowery and Second, is still the healthy choice.

Good riddance to them if they were like that to you.

4th St Co-op, indeed! Please support that great little gem! They are just up the street from Whole Foods, so we must not take them for granted!!

I saw this coming. The stock on the shelves had dwindled to nothing you would ever want. Hate to promote Whole Foods but they have great stock and good prices on homeopathic remedies.

Whole Foods is owned by a union hating libertarian sociopath who compared Obama to Hitler because he dislikes his minimum wage employees getting heath insurance. Support other food stores.

Still saying "HATE TO PROMOTE WHOLE FOODS" but they do have good prices on homeopathic items for those of us on limited budgets.

Umm, declining sales? Well, could it possibly have been because they failed to restock items when stock was running low? Since I am a vegan, and they had certain vegan items there, I'd go to pick up a few things for lunch. Some time ago, I came in and found that there were missing items on the shelves. A few days later, less items, a few days later, store looked practically empty. I asked then if they were closing - Oh, no - - some disagreements with a vendor- looking for a new one, restock would happen soon. They eventually restocked. More recently, again the same phenomenon with low stocked shelves- Oh, sorry- they were to go impending trip to a food exposition, which would result in them getting new stock in, perhaps some new and interesting ones. Fine - as long as I had items for lunch. I wondered how sustainable a business model they had, when they refused to restock shelves. I myself stopped coming in as often because of it. I swung by yesterday to pick up some vegan hot dogs, and saw that they had cleared out, with nary a word to their customers posted. I was annoyed, but I was expecting this day to happen for quite some time.
