Tree Riders on 2nd Avenue

One more Christmas/holiday tree note... the Tree Riders NYC set up their tree shop yesterday outside St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery on Second Avenue between 10th Street and 11th Street... this is their 6th year here... and they always have the tallest/largest trees available in case you need one for an office lobby or outdoor plaza...

So you want to buy a tree for the holidays in the East Village

Another holiday season with Jonathan, the cheery Christmas-tree salesman of 1st Avenue

I love these Tree People. Every year they bring their portable green space to our neighborhood. And change everything about that stretch of 2nd Ave like a tunnel into different world. I think about going out with my father and brother to buy a tree and bargaining it down from $2.00 to a $1.50. Lots of fun and good memories.

I just saw an 8-9 Foot tree for $180. Is that a good price or should I bargain?

Definitely bargain. They overprice them.

A little tip, if you didn't already know it: For those struggling to pay rent (and who cannot afford a tree), they give them away just before Xmas Eve for a donation (or even without). I've done this for the last two years, and though it's long to wait for one, not having the added expense at holiday time is beneficial... that's at least two or three meals on the table, easily. Apparently at least 60 percent of us cannot afford such "luxuries". And they are ever so cool about it.
