Here come the wooden display racks for the Christmas tree of your dreams
The usual Christmas/holiday stand is going up now on East Houston and Essex... haven't walked around all the usual spots just yet (such as outside Rite Aid on First Avenue at Fifth Street, 14th Street and First Avenue, St. Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery on Second Avenue) ...
However, there's a stand coming to a different location this season — Second Avenue at Seventh Street...
...outside the empty lot that housed the three buildings that were destroyed during the deadly gas explosion in March 2015. Perhaps this is an effort to make the corner more festive ... or just bad judgement.

Why does that decoration remind me more of Easter than Xmas?
There's a great new doc on Netflix called Tree Man about one of the folks who sells trees in NYC. It's really good. https://www.netflix.com/watch/80128692
Saw two guys sleeping in a car early yesterday am on east 5th street & 1st ave looking very much like northern mountain men. Surely the Christmas trees are soon to arrive!
14th & 1st started setting up yesterday
I still don't see the 1st and 5th guys in front of Rite-Aid. I wonder if the construction next door has pushed them off to some other spot. Maybe this new spot on 2nd and 7th?
Confirmed. The Christmas Tree guys from in front of Rite Aid have relocated to the spot on Second Avenue and East 7th St. Because of the construction next to Rite Aid there wasn't enough room for their display and small shelter.
I always buy a tree from the Rite Aid guy with the braided beard.
