Kona Coffee and Company now open on 2nd Avenue

The coffee shop opened during the holiday weekend at 57 Second Ave. between Third Street and Fourth Street.

Their Facebook account notes that their beans "come from small, family-owned farms in Kona." Sidewalk signage shows a few of their offerings ... as well as the hours — 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

it's never clear to me who needs coffee at 11pm, other than students pulling all-nighters, or nerds living at their jobs.

@ 3:43p.m. This might shock you, but not everyone in the entire city works a 9-to-5 job.

O no, I see the death sentence of any new retail business right there: The dreaded NYC scaffolding! Often in place for many years with no visible construction activity going on. Obviously they knew so they customized their banners already.

I went in today and they didn't have the ingredients to make the Hawaiian latte. Kinda' lame for a place that just opened. Instead, I got a different flavored latte and it was delicious!
Not sure I see this place a mainstay in the EV, it's a little too cute.

Good luck to them with the scaffolding and all the established coffee shops already in the neighborhood. Bet the rent is sky high. The previous tenant of many years, Alex Shoe Repair, was forced out by Icon Realty when they bought the building. (Tell them to get rid of the extreme stadium lighting. It is so glaringly bright in there it is painful. No atmosphere too, you could be in a mall in Peoria for all the charm of the place. Oh for the funk of bygone days.)
