The hawks of Tompkins Square Park have laid an egg at the Christodora House

As you may know, the resident hawk pair of Tompkins Square Park have built a nest on the East 9th Street side of the Christodora House at Avenue B…

Goggla, who has been documenting the hawks in recent months at Gog in NYC, along with the other hawk watchers, were pretty sure that Dora (a name for now for the female hawk) had laid an egg on a nest on the 7th floor…

Well, she certainly has, as this photo by Francois Portmann at Gog in NYC shows …

Check out Goggla's recent posts here … and here … and here for more on this mating/nesting action.

Maybe EV Grieve could run a contest on what to name the pair. Ala Pail Male and his Central Park mate. How about Tommy Hawk after Tompkins Square and Mo Hawk after the old school crowd. Just sayen'

Some people have been calling them Chris/Christo and Dora to specify their location on the Christodora.

I like to follow T.S. Eliot's take on the naming of cats:

"The name that no human research can discover -
But the [hawk] himself knows, and will never confess.
When you notice a [hawk] in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name."

Goggla's been calling them Dora and Christo.

I'm good with that.

I once had a roommate who let a pigeon nest remain on the window sill outside his bedroom. Along with the nest, birds, and chicks came some other very small critters that were pretty gross. Came through the cracks around the window and created a nightmare for my roommate. Really disgusting! I hope that is not the case with the hawks.

christo = reminds me of the artist that wraps everything?

But, this hawk is covering part of the air conditioner. Bark and twigs instead of plastic, true, but I'm for Christo. Hawk Christo makes better art than the human one.

I work in the apartment a few floors above the nest and there are officially two eggs now, as of yesterday.
