Word is spreading that vegan mainstay Tiengarden is closing tomorrow after 20 years at 170 Allen St. just south of Stanton.
Very bummed our (twitterless) neighbors at #TienGarden are closing after 20 years. Tomorrow is the last day. @evgrieve @LoDownNY #veganloss

The Lo-Down got the confirmation from Tiengarden, who noted that "Allen Street just isn’t what it used to be in terms of foot traffic."
The restaurant almost called it quits in 2011. The space was on the market at the time for $6,500 a month.
This also marks the fourth vegan/vegetarian friendly option to close this year around the neighborhood ... joining Pukk, Lan Cafe and B.A.D. Burger.

Damn. This sucks. I live in eyesight of the place. It used to be my go-to place back when I made money. :( So sad to see the place go even if I couldn't afford it anymore.
Fuck. Almost makes me want to move…but where?
I'm stuck here for now.
So, unless you're willing to spend 100 bucks for dinner for two and can wait 5 weeks for a reservation you can no longer get vegan food?
These rents are criminal. Small business owners need policy maker help.
The funny part is travel to any other city and their own "culinary and mixology renaissance" is getting the same bs prices; $12+ cocktails and $24+ entrees with your plethora of $16 appetizers consistieng of 1.5 ounces of protein and some trumped up seasoning bs. Yet their rents are dirt cheap comparitively to ny. If Union Square Cafe can't survive the landlord KO who can? Democrat local politicians should be screaming for more tenant rights, commercial and resi, but where are they?

That's why there are cookbooks. I've been vegan for 14 years; when I first went vegan, there was exactly one kind of vegan cheese on the market.
Actually, you don't have to make a reservation at Angelica's if you're just a party of one; I walked in and had dinner at the communal table the other day and brought home leftovers.
People, use it or lose it: if you like a place, support it.
It's closed already. Went by for a last supper
Wait Pukk closed?
Best cheap luck special out there!
