Today's Urban Etiquette marijuana sign of the day

Paraphrasing here, but someone is requesting that people do not smoke marijuana in the lobby of this building along Second Street... because "not everybody likes that shit." The sign leaver's advice? Do it inside your own apartment.

No word about about the greasy-looking smears on the sign.

Thanks to chang0blanco for the share!

On a brighter note - the aforementioned greasy looking smears spell out "SMD" A.K.A "Suck My D..."

If your landlord does not give a S what you as a tenant have to say, even if it is all for the landlord's best interests, you are screwed. In NYC, there are a lot of landlords who are more interested in other matters.

Smeared on with hash oil no doubt.

What will this person do when pot is legalized in NY? Move to NJ?....uh no...it is going to be legal there too....and in a few years it will be legal in every state of the union.

I can imagine luxury buildings in the near future having a "pot lounge" as an amenity alongside a gym, bike room and sauna.

We have seen a lot more pot smokers in the building recently, and nobody seems to be able to stop it. Some are kids smoking in the stairways, others are adults smoking in apartments, Since DeBlasio loosened the pot laws it seems like people are smoking more in places they might not have smoked before.

I wish they would come up with a vape version of pot that we don’t have any of that nasty skunk smell, or more edibles which also don’t cause a nuisance, Pot users would like this too since they wont cause an oder that attracts unwanted attention. But in the end potheads are all the same, like tobacco smokers, they don’t care about the victims of second hand smoke, they just want to get their high,

If your building in non smoking, write to your landlord about the smoking. Tell him/her that's it 's a risk to the health and safety of the tenants. If the warning is on paper, he'll act. He'll be afraid if something happens and he didn't enforce the no smoking ban. Good luck.

We have 24 hour security, and the landlord sends them around to investigate the marijuana smell when anyone calls the help line. But they always say the same thing: unless they can see the person smoking there’s nothing they can do,

There is a NYC law that you cannot smoke in common places in buildings -- and that would include lobbies. So the person has some legal footing here.

They already have vape versions in states where weed is legal. You get nice and stoned and instead of a nasty skunk smell it cam smell nice and fragrant. They also have all kinds of edibles as well as medicated chewing gum, butter, honey, bbq sauce etc. Once this becomes legal here these issues should go away.

Regardless of whether it is legal, I hate anyone smoking anything in my building because it's old and combustible. This building would go up in flames fast. That's what happened when a drunk guy was smoking in bed in a building down the street a couple of years ago. His apartment was destroyed by fire and the apartments below him were drenched in water. I am surprised it is even legal to smoke in these old buildings that were built before anyone thought of fireproofing and sprinklers.

there's already "vape weed", it doesn't smell as bad, and should be the go-to for smokers in buildings were people are sensitive to it. My guess is that people aren't smoking in the hallway of this building, they're smoking in their apartments but you can smell it in the common areas. Time for the old paper-towl-tube-and-dryer-fabric-sheet trick in this building...

I hate being this naive (esp. at my age!) but can you explain, please?

You take an empty paper towel roll and stick fabric softener sheets in one end. You blow the weed smoke through the roll. The fabric softener overpowers the weed. Very common technique back in the day. You could smoke and not have a room smelling like weed. Very effective.
