Tompkins Square Bagels makes it official on 2nd Avenue
Christopher Pugliese, the owner of Tompkins Square Bagels on Avenue A, has confirmed that he signed a lease for a second East Village location.
As we first reported on April 27, Pugliese had a deal in place to take over the former Open Pantry space at 184 Second Ave. between East 11th Street and East 12th Street. He signed the lease on Friday. We hope to have a few more details later this week.
Open Pantry, the 45-year-old coffee shop/grocery, closed for good at the end of January. The proprietors of Open Pantry also own the building.
Tompkins Square Bagels opened on Avenue A near East 10th Street in December 2011.

Awesome!
I look forward to trying their product before I leave the city for good. But I've never been able to get past the long lines at the store on Avenue A. Maybe having two locations will help.
I am really glad to see that a real, engaged, local business is doing well and I wish Chris the best of luck.
The line typically takes 10 minutes, max. Well worth the wait. Go.
We'll all be leaving the city for good shortly if rent stabilization isn't get passed tonite and I personally believe the nazi's are making their moves and want to force this issue even if it does destroy the city and put senior citizens and children literally on the street. Its never stopped them before.
Congrats Chris!
And yes, the lines may appear long but from end of line to order is about 10 mins, and order takes 7-10 more. It's worth the wait! I don't foresee the lines reducing at either location, FYI.
It's a bagel people! $3.00 for a bagel with cream cheese?!? How do you think they are affording another inflated rent....
Now two born every min. & they've all moved here.
It's not the length of the line. It's just the general chaos of the order / pay system (lack thereof). Just too much of a mob. I've now given up after running through it a couple times.
Agreed. Hopefully this location won't be as packed with OMGs as the Avenue A location. All that shrieking!
Maybe they'll be able to put a toaster that works in this one, so I can enjoy a tasty bagel with a crunchy outside and chewy inside!
Isn't Black Seed Bagel taking over De Robertis? We are truly in the bagel district now.
This is one of the best bagel places in the entire city. Whiners should stop whining. We are lucky to have them here. best guys!
NY Grump - I'm no landlord and have no interest in defending them but comparing such to nazis is really over the top and insensitive to those who did suffer such atrocities
"crunchy outside and chewy inside". That's not a real bagel. I know because others have told me as much.
So there!

oh come on!
BENVENUTO!!! or something like that. welcome Chris
I live on the block and would like to welcome them here... Will be one of the first customers when you open!
You would think the Ave A one wouldn't be so crowded cuz it's cash only. 3/4 of the spoiled little rich kids in there try to use credit card so the bill goes to mommy and daddy..."Cash only, OMG!, what do I do!!!"
