Much as it pains me to say it, I think we are watching the death by a thousand cuts of Gem Spa. First the illegal cigarette sales, then the landlord's forced removal of the sidewalk sale items, means less and less revenue for this hallowed place. I guess Zoltar could never have seen this coming...

Interesting interview with Martin Rev - well worth the read. Thanks for sharing.

May we please get a Pedestrians Rights and Safety group going? Let me know when and where, I'll be there.

No such thing. If it doesn't have milk it is not an egg cream. I imagine it is made from soy milk or almond milk.....which is not milk. But okay. Always ready for something new.

However if you want to make your own real NY egg cream it is about as simple as pouring a glass of milk. Get out a 12 oz glass - like a mug if you have one. First, get Fox's U-Bet chocolate syrup - fill the glass one quarter way. Next pour in milk, real milk, whole milk, not 1% or skim or anything else..MILK. Fill the glass up to the half way mark. Now.....and this is the key....get Seltzer....plain old seltzer. Pour it in slowly over a table spoon and stir until you get a nice little foam head on it.....and...BEHOLD....THE ORIGINAL AND STILL BEST WAY TO MAKE A NYC EGG CREAM...LIKE THEY DID IN THE OLD DAYS.

steven B I have been clamoring for and thinking the same thing. Enough of this BS concern for dangerous Bicyclists. How about some concern for Frightened and threatened Pedestrians?

Thank you for the recipe 2:24pm, U-Bet I'll make it :) However, vegans won't. If I was vegan I would use Planet Oat original oat milk in place of whole milk because it is the thickest creamiest vegan alternative to whole milk.

'Know what's a slept on easy to make drink? An "Orange Julius." Use an empty 12-15oz. drink bottle or glass bottle with lid/cap. Pour whole or oat milk into the bottle at the halfway point then fill up the rest of the bottle with orange or tangerine juice until there's about an inch of open space from the top then shake until foamy. Use more milk for a thicker drink.

Another thing I like to make is a creamsicle or orange juice float which is just half a small container of Haagen Daaz vanilla ice cream in orange or tangerine juice.

@Stephen B: Yes, yes, yes! I'd be one of the first to sign up for a Pedestrian Rights & Safety Group.

I think pedestrians NEED representation and maybe a lobbyist. Somehow those of us who get around on foot (in this ultimate WALKING CITY) are being treated as if we're suddenly the least important segment of the entire population. PEDESTRIAN SAFETY should be the FIRST priority across the board.

It’s not an Egg Cream, its a VegCream.

The original Orange Julius stands used to offer the option of having a raw egg mixed into the drink.

I wish drivers would have to be licensed before they get behind the wheel of a vehicle.

There have been 110 road deaths in NYC so far this year — an 18.3-percent increase in road fatalities since 2018, according to the Department of Transportation. As of Tuesday, 56 pedestrians have been killed so far this year, which is three more than this time last year, and 15 cyclists have been killed, which is eight more than this time last year.

Stephen B & anon 5;23, have you looked into what groups like Transportation Alternatives, Right of Way, Families for Safe Streets et al actually do?

They fight for traffic-calming improvements, wider sidewalks, car-free plazas, pedestrian lead intervals in crosswalks, medians to reduce crossing times, daylighting (improving the sightline of oncoming traffic for peds by removing parking spaces near the intersection), slow zones near schools, better mass transit for underserved neighborhoods, and yes, infrastructure that supports cycling. All street and road users benefit.

Has anyone noticed that the city's so-called "traffic calming" measures have only resulted in MORE anger and road rage?

Maybe someone should text that to De Blah-sio while he's in his SUV convoy heading to his Brooklyn gym.
