Wild Son-Good Night Sonny team bringing plant-based burgers to St. Mark's with Pop's Eat-Rite

Signage is up now at 123 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue for Pop's Eat-Rite, a plant-based burger joint...

Here's more about the operation via the team behind Good Night Sonny, the Wild Son and the Wayland:

Pop’s Eat-Rite is a plant-based fast service burger joint, opening on St. Mark's Place in September 2020. We will serve a classic smashburger, made using Impossible Meat. Our meatless menu is our updated take on a classic burger stand, with fries, veggie sides, vegan donuts, soft-serve, smoothies and frozen lemonade and will be entirely free of animal products.

Pop’s was born from the idea that the landscape of the restaurant industry has changed suddenly and like never before. In these times we want to offer our neighborhood a convenient, responsible product at a fair price...

Earlier in 2019, the team — Robert Ceraso and Jason Mendenhall — had plans for a steakhouse at No. 123 (most recently Mr. White). However, CB3's SLA committee nixed a full-liquor request for that spot in March 2019.

I can't think of anything witty... said...

This is exciting news. Hopefully the prices will be reasonable. Ever since Superiority Burger went into pandemic mode their prices have been way too expensive to indulge anymore. Nice to see a restaurant filling a needed gap.

Great signs!

Can't have too many meatless burger joints—IMHO.

Want to compete with superior burger?

I don't think this competes with Superiority Burger. This will be an Impossible Burger offering while Superiority Burger makes a very unique veggie patty (as well as offers many other highly varied dishes). Pop's looks to be angling for a "classic burger joint" and Superiority Burger is a Rube Goldberg machine. Different markets!

Superiority Burger's current ordering system is a pain in the butt, and their prices are ridiculous. $40 with tip for a sandwich, side and cup of gelato? No thanks. Plus they've made their politics clear by the signs on their door. They're fortunate to not be one of the many small local businesses that were vandalized and looted during the protests. Otherwise they may not be so eager to defund the police. I'm happy to support any new venture by Endless Hospitality. Hoping the Wayland is back in action soon too.

The expensive box deal offered by Superiority Burger during the pandemic doesn't work for me. So I am happy to have a new place to try. I hope their prices are reasonable!

@4:47 lol... maybe an Ed Debevic’s or Hard Rock Cafe redux? all perfect for the new NYU arrivées

Are there even any new NYU arrivées this year? Maybe it would be like 20 years ago, before the NYU realestate/tuition combo machine took over the East Village. There were way less transplants, so they couldn't live the midwest life here, and they had strived to be real New Yorkers.

True and I’m also up for some affordable non meat burger to consume less meat. Wonder what type of fries they will serve...

Superiority Burger is just too expensive. Too difficult to order, can’t choose what you like, or even contemplate doing so....an element of pretense that turns me off wrapped into their process that turns me away. Hoping this new place can deliver great food, affordability and humility:))

Could not agree with you more....
