Fun in the snow with the adorable Tompkins Square Park wildlife

Awww, that's so sweet the way the rats and squirrels play together…

This is a positive take to the reality that the rat is super hungry since there have been no food bits at the park for days. Therefore, the rat is not a friendly neighbor and is in attack mode against it's neighbor/distant cousin.

They're cousins,
Identical cousins and you'll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike.

Which one is Patty and which one is Cathy? So hard to tell them apart.

You could lose your mind,
When cousins,
Are two of a kind!

cousins? they are looking to mate! wait until you see the resulting genetics - rats with bushy tails. squirrels with whip tails. and, no, they are NOT cute.

I usually feed the squirrels at Madison Square Park. Three have died last week for unknown reasons. I'm thinking it's the cold or tourist who are feeding them with junk.

If the rats need food, it looks like I'll have to make a trip to TSP soon and feed both them and the squirrels.

Don't hate me. We all want to live and just because we overpopulate the world we shouldn't strike out against other species.

P.S. we carry diseases too or haven't you heard.

Which one is the one that has only seen the sights a girl can see from Brooklyn Heights?

Not showing my age just my knowledge of 60's sit-coms.

A rat is just a squirrel without a fancy tail.

Or as a different take on what angela said, a squirrel is a rat with a better dress code.

When we're long gone, pushed out of NYC by the cost of living, the rats will still be here, living off the land, getting fat on squirrel meat.

"A hot dog makes them lose control "

Omg. That is the cutest thing ever!!
I have raised both baby rats and squirrels - they are such loving animals. Now I don't know what the hardscrabble EV life and easy access to meth has done to them...
(I always thought "a hot dog makes her lose control" was the funniest lyric everrrrr - thank you, Anonymous 10:16).

It's batshit crazy people like 5:28PM who are helping keep the vermin alive.

We don't carry the Bubonic plague like the rats you feed, we can go to clinics, there are no clinics for rats. I know it is a waste of time trying to convince you that you are hurting fellow humans by feeding wildlife.

Are we getting a squirrel + rat hybrid? Exclusively made in the East Village.

Fed the squirrels and rats today! It was so cold in Tompkins tonight but I felt I had to feed the rats in order to keep the squirrels safe. Unfortunately, the hawk came out of nowhere and grabbed a rat and flew up to a tree branch.

I know this is nature but I still felt sad. Many people are not aware that rats are social creatures and sensitive. You may laugh but ask any fancy rat owner.

Anyway, I left two cups of lab blocks for rats and fed the squirrels walnuts and almonds.

I did what I could and then headed on over to Hotel Tortuga for dinner.
