The state's fluorescent SEIZED sticker (for "nonpayment of taxes") has arrived at Lanza's on First Avenue between 10th Street and 11th Street, as this photo via EVG reader Muzz shows.
There is also a notice from the State's Department of Taxation and Finance. There isn't any other information about the situation at the moment…
Remember that these seizures aren't always permanent, as we saw at Sahara East, among other businesses.
The old-world Italian restaurant first opened in 1904.

Oh no! I hope this is just temporary. Although the food at Lanza's is not the best (imho), it's a really wonderful experience. And the staff is the best.
It closed because the likes of Roos would orefer to have a coffee shop here.
the residential part of the building lost cooking gas for months, they let the tenants eat at lanzas every night for free. good people, and i hope both building and business owners can resolve this.

Lanza's was owned by Anthony Macagnone, who owned Sal Anthony's on Irving Place and several other businesses. They closed Sal Anthony's 10 years ago after a rent dispute, and I don't know if the family still owns Lanza's.

Thanks blue glass, I wasn't trying to say that they were the original, just the recent owners. I can't remember when he bought it, I thought it was in the late 90's.
I was there in 1968 on a Sunday night, when it was still frequented by wise guys, decades before the restaurateur Sal Anthony's bought it over

My girl and i were the only diners,save a couple of guys in the rear table who jabbered away.
We weren't paying attention to what was being said until I heard a loud "Shhsh" from one of them to the talker.
He responded, "Who cares? I bought off his brother the judge and I'll buy him off too."
You mention Di Roberti's ehich had the best ricotta cheese cake, pastries, cappuccino, and icecream. I will never get over them retiring and closing!

Lanza's has been there since 1904. Perhaps you're confusing it with one of the trendy new establishments.

The Lanza family always did and still owns the property. Sal Anthony never owned it he only leased.
