Another pizza-random-food-item place has apparently closed at 35 1st Ave.

Looks as if that's it for Stars, the latest operation to try making a go of 35 First Ave. following Empire Pizza II, IL Gusto Italiano and Farid's Middle Eastern Grill Food & Pizza, among others.

EVG regular Spike notes that the Marshal recently paid a visit to the establishment between East Second Street and East Third Street...

Aside from pizza, Stars offered gyros, kebab platters, Philly cheesesteaks, grilled chicken, hamburgers, turkey burgers, etc.

Previously on EV Grieve:
Another pizza concept, awning for 35 First Ave.

Decent pizza places seem to be a thing of the past for the east village. I still miss the place that used to be on 2nd Ave, bet 4th & 5th Sts. I can't even remember the name or how long it's been closed, but it's been at least a few years I'd say.

Try to be all things to all people and you wind up spreading yourself so thin you become nothing to no one.

Lord the pizza here sucked, as did the last 3 establishments. But the flashing, dancing, spinning electronic sign listing all the types of food they serve will be surely missed. Hopefully the next incarnation will keep that flame alit.

Is it the rent sinking these places or bad food or the combination? My guess is not enough foot traffic for inexpensive food and the space is not suitable for a pricier joint. We will probably see more storefronts following this pattern as the rents continue to be affordable by national chains.
