Partial reveal of the new residential complex coming to 185 Avenue B

[Photo from October 2013 by Bobby Williams]

After three-plus long years of demolition and construction at 185 Avenue B, we have our first glimpse of the new 7-story building here between East 11th Street and East 12th Street…

… and the rendering for the mixed-used residential building that will also house the Elim Pentecostal Church...

The northeast corner remains wrapped ...

The site has been a source of aggravation for neighbors since demolition started in July 2012... and even before, dating back to the fire that nearly destroyed the building in October 2006.

Well, that sure wasn't worth the wait.

I'm sure God appreciates the urgent need for market rate housing that enriches His flock and won't hold it against them that they completely disrupted life at the neighboring elementary school for weeks on end and pushed foot traffic out into the street for several years at a dangerous intersection.

God doesn't care the church is from new jersey. Evangelical. Will they be feeding the needy with their profits?

Don't Pentecostals use snakes in their services, and speak in tongues?

NJ Rev. Carlos' real estate deal with the devil is his big FUCK YOU to the neighborhood.

His uncle GAVE him the theater to KEEP RUNNING as a THEATER, but why should he honor his agreement? Too many tax-free millions to be reaped from this deal and he got them alright!

If he wasn't a hypocrite, Carlos would have created low-moderate income housing there, but his actions speak for themselves.

Now we get MORE yuppie scum living in yet another UGLY-as-fuck "luxury" apt building and one less historic nice old theater that could have been fixed up at very little cost and continued serving the neighborhood, as Carlos' uncle intended....

The building is a few stories too tall and bland gif my taste but at least the people living there will be paying taxes and gainfully employed. The people that moved into the low income building around the corner at 535 East 11th are low income and low class. Constantly cursing on their cell phones at someone or another for an hour or more. They also harass my neighbor when she walks by on her way to work. Our neighborhood has paid our dues in regards to low income housing. Move it somewhere else.

535 East 11th St is a Community Access project. Let staff know what is going on, they might not be able to do anything or maybe indication that tenant is off their meds. Better to get help sooner rather than later.

Give the nabe the kind of ghetto housing the rich down here deserve. That's what I say.

The ELIM church building was not "donated" to the so called Rev. Carlos Torres by any uncle; the uncle was a member of the church and Carlos Torres was not even born when a group of parishioners purchased the building for less than $70,000. Nevertheless, Torres has always seen the property as his personal patrimony, or asset. If the "Pastor" would it have wanted to fix they church, it could it have happened since the church received over $200,000 in payments from an insurance company after the "fire". Can you believe it that the church members found out two years later that the insurance company had made the payment? He was not able to explain how the money was used. It is now being reviewed by the NY State AG. The development of the property has been a real deal for Torres, his brother and father. He tried to muscle the developer into giving a ""consultant"contract to his brother and he even tried to cut off out of the development deal the consultant that originally worked with the church for two years(at no pay) and vetted the developer to make the deal happen. After threatening to sue him personally and the church, Torres had to pay. I was told that facing the potential of a lawsuit, a meeting was brokered by several Pastors from the neighborhood who felt outraged by Torres actions. This guy is corrupt to its core.
