Schmackary's debuts today on Cooper Square

The second NYC outpost of Schmackary's opens today on 35 Cooper Square at Sixth Street...

The bakery offers 75-plus varieties of cookies ... plus brownie's, krispie treats and Schmackaroons (their take on a macaroon, obviously). They also sell coffee drinks, tea and milk.

The last tenant here, Pourt, the cafe-work space combo, closed after 11 months in December 2017 here in the retail base of the Marymount Manhattan College dormitory.

I just assume they're cashless and don't want actual humans to visit.

Does "cookies on a rotating basis" means those revolving display cases like they have in diners?

Is this place going to take cash or not? Anyone know?

Schmackery: Times Square and East Village..don't these people take any time to look around the neighborhood? This is kiddy food, perfect for tourists and children going to Frozen, the Lion King, Hershey's, the Lego Store, etc. Not a fit with the Bowery Hotel, the Standard, the New Museum, etc.

I sat across from Schmackery this afternoon and watched the flow of foot traffic. Only obvious tourists were stopping to take their free tastes. Everyone else just passed them by without a glance. Another new business that will open and close in a blink.

Agree with 4:10.

As someone who has spent over ten years living in this area, I fail to see how it will do well considering its surroundings. Most of which are a bit sophisticated and overpriced such as Bowery Hotel, The Standard, and New Museum to name a few. I could see this bakery being successful on NYU campus, Union Square where it is a constant shit show or even by the Highline which is now sadly a tourist hotspot. How many cookies can they sell to pay exorbitant rent, salaries and production costs before turning a profit?
